HOW WE WORK
Carving stone is neither cheap nor easy. In recognition of this bottom line, Sculpture and Stone provides a working method that is both effective and proven by the last few hundred years.
The work progresses in stages. Each stage goes through a client approval process before moving onto the next stage.
This stage consists of a thorough consultation with the client to understand the needs the wants and the limitations of any sort. Financial, spatial and aesthetic borders not to be crossed are discussed and agreed on before proceeding to the next stage.
The work begins by a series of drawing studies aimed at working out the design of the artwork. In case of a figurative carving this will include also a series a life drawing and anatomical studies.
Stage three is optional. It may happen at times that a client finds it hard to imagine the approved design drawings as a three dimensional sculpture. In those cases a scaled down model executed in clay will be prepared.
Once the client is satisfied either with the design drawings from stage two or the clay model from stage three, the stone needed will be purchased and the carving starts.
Installation may or may not be performed by Sculpture and Stone and it is determined on a project basis. For example monumental sculptures and headstones may be subject to rules and regulations of a particular burrial ground.
